Program Description:

Gain new skills and perspective by joining Concordia nursing students and faculty on a three-week cultural immersion and clinical experience at a private Costa Rican university, UNIBE. During the program you will observe and provide patient care in a wide variety of clinical care settings, including a medical-surgical hospital, children's hospital, primary care clinics, home-visiting nurses, substance abuse centers, older adult care centers and Christian-based orphanages. Also, you will have the opportunity to learn and practice Spanish in daily classroom sessions. During your free weekends, you will have opportunities to tour amazing cultural and natural sites with a bilingual guide. Lodging will be with a host family and all meals will be provided by the family or the university. Must be at least a junior in the CUW nursing program to participate.

Students who join this program will be required to register for one of the following courses:
NURS 451: Global Experience- Costa Rica (3 credits)*
 
*This course is listed in the Spring 2017 semester. This class will satisfy your UG culture requirement for Nursing majors.

This course is led by Dr. Mary Lou Kopp of the Concordia School of Nursing and she is  the best person to contact for questions about this program. 
 

Requirements

  • This program is open to junior and senior nursing students. 
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the institution.
  • Must register for one of the associated courses. 
  • Must comply with all deadlines for applications, document submissions, deposits and other payments.

Costs

  • Program Fees: $2,300
  • Tuition (4 credits)*
  • Airfare: ~$600
  • Study Abroad Fee: $50
  • iNext Insurance Costs: $40
*For full-time undergraduates, the 4 credits of tuition is part of the Spring 2017 semester. As long as your Spring registration remains 18 or less, there is no extra tuition cost.

Included in the Program Fees are:

  • Fees associated with obtaining a valid passport or*
