Program Description:

Immerse yourself globally as you help improve lives for individuals, families, and communities in Kenya. Focusing on women’s health and communicable disease control, you will work with a Nurse Practitioner and spend time in Nairobi and the nearby area of Voi.  This course will introduce you to the challenges and rewards of providing health care in a low-resource setting.  Experiences may include working with hospital staff in Voi, taking part in home visits, visiting a nursing school; wellness exams, HIV and AIDS management activities, and health education lessons; community gatherings and church activities; and excursions to local markets and game parks. This adventure is certain to enrich your life, and to give you a fresh perspective on nursing.

NURS 451: Global Education- Kenya (3 credits)

This course is led by Professor Peggy McLaughlin. Peggy has spent years as a nurse in Africa and other parts of the developing world. She is arranging many of the logistical details and is the best person to contact for questions about this program. 


  • This program is open to all CUAA nursing undergraduate students who had completed NURS 316 & 317
  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the institution.
  • Must register for the associated course (no auditing). 
  • Must comply with all deadlines for applications, document submissions, deposits and other payments.
NOTE: Space is limited to TEN students on this program. Simply meeting the program requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program, especially if there are more than ten applicants. Students will be selected based on seniority, GPA, compliance with payment deadlines, and strength of application. 


  • Program Fees: $3,600*
  • Tuition (3 credits, summer tuition)**
  • Study Abroad Fee: $50
  • iNext Insurance Costs: $40
