Program Description:
nicaragua PT
Join Physical Therapy students as we go to a rural community in Nicaragua to provide hands-on service to those less fortunate. Learn about the Nicaraguan culture and way of life! Work side-by-side with a missionary nurse to discover how to serve others and serve Christ through this life-changing experience!

Students who join this program will be required to register for one of the following courses:

DPT 763- Global Education Physical or Occupational Therapy
These courses are listed in the Spring 2018 semester.

Travel Dates

PT Students: May 13th-May 27th, 2018


This course is led by Dr. Cheryl Petersen, Professor of Physical Therapy. She has lead this program for many years and is the best person to contact for questions. 


  • The course is geared toward PT students, but students from the School of Education are welcome to apply.
  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the institution.
  • Must register for one of the associated courses. 
  • Must comply with all deadlines for applications, document submissions, deposits and other payments.


  • Program Fees: $1,000-1,300
  • Tuition (3 credits)*
  • Study Abroad Fee: $50
  • iNext Insurance Costs: $40
*For full-time undergraduates, there is no additional charge for tuition as long as the 3-credit course does not put you over 18 credits for the Spring semester.


Included in the Program Fees are:
  • Round-trip airfare
  • Airport transfer and ground transportation
  • Luggage fees for up to 1 checked bag under 50 pounds (only one checked bag is recommended)
  • Lodging
  • Travel visa
  • Some meals*
Not Included:
  • Fees associated with obtaining a valid passport*
  • Personal expenses
