Gain new skills and perspectives by joining Concordia health care students and faculty on a three-week cultural immersion and clinical experience at a private Costa Rican university, UNIBE. During the program, you will observe and provide patient care in a wide variety of clinical care settings. You will also have the opportunity to learn and practice Spanish, both inside and outside the classroom. During your free weekends, you will have the chance to tour amazing cultural and natural sites with a bilingual guide. Lodging will be with a host family and all meals will be provided by the family or the university. Students must be at least a junior in a CUW health care program to participate. Students who join this program will be required to register for the following course:

IPE 453 Costa Rica Immersion (3 credits)
Available to all health care students.
This trip counts towards the certificates of Spanish
for Health Care workers and Interprofessional Education

Leaders

This course is led by Dr. Mary Lou Kopp of the School of Nursing. Dr. Kopp has been to Costa Rica several times, and has led multiple groups of student abroad. Please contact her with any questions about the program at marylou.kopp@cuw.edu.
 

Requirements

  • This program is open to juniors and seniors in CUW health care programs.
  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the institution.
  • Must register for the associated course. 
  • Must comply with all deadlines for applications, document submissions, meetings, deposits, and other payments.

Costs

  • Program Fees: $3,000* will be finalized in Fall 2019 ($500 deposit due Oct. 4 to the School of Nursing)
  • Study Abroad Fee: $50
  • iNext Insurance Costs: $50

  • Fees associated with obtaining a valid passport or visa
